In 2006, Mesoamerica, together with a group of Central American investors, formed an investment vehicle focused on the regional provision of cable TV, high-speed Internet, voice and data services in Central America, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Mexico.
The vehicle acquired a 49.9% stake in Amnet Telecommunications Holdings, Ltd. (Amnet), which leads the cable TV, high speed Internet and corporate data transmission service markets in Costa Rica, El Salvador and Honduras. The Kazma family, who have operated cable TV companies in the United States, Central America and the Caribbean for over four decades, were the vehicle’s majority shareholders.
In October 2008, Millicom International Cellular, S.A., acquired 100% of Amnet. Amnet’s shareholders realized a successful exit with the assistance of Mesoamerica’s private equity and mergers & acquisitions services. |
