Mesoamerica focuses on investments opportunities of the highest grade. Our investment policies allow for both controlling and minority positions with attractive risk/reward profiles over a long term horizon.
We seek companies that are either leaders in their industries or that have the vision and opportunity to become leaders through industry consolidation or expansion to and from Central America and the Andean region. We invest in companies that have or can develop a sustained competitive advantage, a solid cash flow, a high return on equity capital, and a strong growth potential. A highly capable management team with depth of industry knowledge is also a requirement for the investment process to move forward.
Mesoamerica operates two investment models within its Private Equity practice.
Traditional Private Equity
Investment model focused on large scale ($50 million or more) investment opportunities for growth capital, industry consolidation and the implementation of well-articulated strategies. Our investment horizon for this model is between 4 and 8 years, depending on the nature of the business and industry. Investment exits are primarily executed via a sale to a multinational corporation; however, other exit alternatives, including public offerings and leveraged recapitalizations, are also considered when appropriate.
Mesoamerica Structured Investments (MSI)
Conceived in 2009 as a response to the need for more flexible sources of capital in both Central America and the Andean region. MSI offers a variety of investment structures such as mezzanine debt or preferred equity, with a base return and a variable equity component that allow for flexibility in companies’ capital structures. Investment size ranges from US$15 million to US$25 million and investment horizon is tailored to the company’s needs. |
